5000 Sadhus only expected in Pashupati due to Kumbha Mela

KATHMANDU, MARCH.10 -While all Hindus pilgrims are celebrating   Mahasivaratri-a special night to pray to LORD Shibha- on Sunday, Shadhus are expected only around 5000 in Pashupatinath Temple during this year Mahasivaratri due to Kumbha Mela in India.

According to Pashupati Area Deveopment Trust about 5000 Sadhus are expected in Pashupatinath to celebrate MahaSivaratri because of Kumbha Mela in India this time.

Kumbha Mela, held every twelfth year in India, is a mass hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river. It is the world's largest religious gathering . 80 million people expected in 2013. Mela is held at each of Haridwar, Allahabad, Nasik and Ujjain ever twelfth year.



On the occasion, Siwa Das, 58, a Sadhu from Banasras India says he celebrated in India as well. "But I prefer to visit Nepal for Shivaratri as Pashupatinath is above all other Hindu shrines," he said. Adding that celebration of Shivaratri at Pasupatinath is bigger than anywhere else.

"People from around the world gather in this temple to celebrate this auspicious occasion. We smoke ganja as part of the celebration as Lord Shiva himself allows us to do so on the day. I am here for a week and will enjoy my stay here with other friends from Banaras," he added.

Festival is observing all over the country & around the world. Thousands Sadhus come to Pashupati from India, Malaysia and other country as well.

Number of Sadhus, devotees and others, who come to Pashupatinath temple on this occasion has been incrising every year.
